• Will you be at ease communicating with a wide range of people?
  
• Can you persistently follow up with people without fear of “bothering” them?
  
• Is efficient record keeping easy for you?
  
• Are you comfortable managing employees if needed?
  
• Would people describe you as a natural leader and motivator?
  
• Can you work independently with little need for supervision or praise?
  
• Do you manage your personal time and money effectively?

If you breezed through these questions and answered “yes” to most of them, you can be assured you have the basic project management skills needed to enjoy your work.

Specific Project Management Skills

Now that you have determined if you have the core skills for project management, what do you know about the industry you will be managing the project for? Since a project manager is typically involved from inception all the way to completion, a broad knowledge of the industry, company and product you will be working with is imperative.
